Merck Foundation CEO, Senator Dr. Rasha Kelej, and African First Ladies reaffirm their commitment to empowering girls and women through impactful development programs. Empowering girls and women is at the core of all Merck Foundation initiatives.
Dr Kelej notes that women often lack a conducive environment to realize their capabilities, especially in underserved communities.
The Merck Foundation's "More Than a Mother" movement aims to empower infertile and childless women through access to information, education, and a change of mindset.

Out of 2,230 scholarships awarded across 50 countries, 1,046 (nearly 50%) have been granted to female medical graduates. Additionally, 680 scholarships have been awarded to young doctors dedicated to advancing women's health.
The Merck Foundation is also committed to empowering women through education. Through the "Educating Linda" program, over 700 girls are receiving scholarships to continue their education, and thousands of school girls in African countries are receiving essential school items.
